hard boiling an egg

Well he’s not very handsome to look at

Oh he’s shaggy and he eats like a hog

And he’s always killin’ my chickens

That dirty old egg-suckin’ dog

Seriously, I think I have to research how to boil an egg every time I do it. The length of time you let the eggs sit covered will determine the “doneness” of the eggs.  If you like a drier yolk let the eggs sit for 12 minutes, if you don’t (like me) pull them out at about 9 or 10 minutes.

Ingredients:

Eggs

Directions:

1. In a medium saucepan, place as many as eggs as you’d like to boil, fill with enough cold water to cover the top of the eggs
2. Place heat on high and bring water and eggs to a boil
3. Once boil begins remove from heat and cover for 10-12 minutes
4. Remove from pan and rinse with cold water and remove shell

  1. Nice! I do the same thing every time I make hard boiled eggs, too. I like them really bright yellow, just barely cooked. I have to check The Joy every single time!

  3. I’m glad to know I am not the only person who can never remember how to boil an egg. Generally I bring water to a boil, slide the eggs in, and boil them for about 8-9 minutes which yields a yolk a little less hard than the one in the picture. I’m going to use your method next time.

I really like soft boiled eggs! The yolk is still runny and amazing! Your blog touches me in very special way, please keep it up!
